The purpose of our lives is to grow step by step toward a fundamental transformation. Instead of always seeking some form of self-gratification, we can learn to give to others with no self-interest at all. This is the essential teaching of the Kabbalah portrayed in these essays by Baal Hasulam - the greatest modern explicator of Kabbalah. Rabbi Gottlieb provides an illuminating commentary as a living chassidic rebbe devoted to the practice and teaching of Baal Hasulam's spiritual path.

    Praise for Giving
"If I were to recommend one book to commence the study of Kabbalah, it would be Aryeh Siegel's Giving. This is not only an introduction to primary Kabbalistic ideas, but also a redirecting of how to live a life of Torah. With this scholarly and graceful translation, Aryeh Siegel offers us the opportunity to transform ourselves."
-Rabbi Aryeh Ben David, Founder of Ayeka: Center for Soulful Education

"This volume is a formidable demonstration of the transformative power and wisdom of the Ashlag teachings."
-Yehuda Gellman, Professor Emeritus, Dept. of Philosophy, Ben-Gurion University

"Giving is based on essays from Matan Torah published by Baal HaSulam as an introduction to some of the basic concepts of Kabbalah. I highly recommend this work to all spiritual seekers, all those who wish to find meaning in their lives and those who seek the true inner depths of Torah."
-Jeremy Langford, founder of Or HaSulam: The Ashlag Heritage Foundation

"The epic works of Baal HaSulam are the most important Jewish spiritual writings of our generation. Rebbe Gottlieb is the living continuation of Baal HaSulam, and his commentary brings these spiritual teachings to a new level of clarity."
-Avraham Loewenthal, translator of Inner Work

"I have generally avoided Kabbalah literature, thinking it would be too esoteric and abstract for me. But these essays proved to be a real eye-opener. Giving is a vital work for anyone with a spiritual bent - latent or active - who is interested in addressing Judaism's answer to what our purpose is in this life."
    -Ben Lynfield, Jerusalem-based international journalist
