Deena Zimmerman
Dr. Deena Zimmerman is the author of A Lifetime Companion to the Laws of Jewish Family Life.
Deena R. Zimmerman MD MPH IBCLC is a physician with a life long love of Judaic Studies. She received her BA from Yale University and MD from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. She completed her pediatric residency, chief residency and Masters in Public Health at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey where she served on the faculty as Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics for four years. Dr. Deena Zimmerman currently works as a pediatrician for Maccabi Health Service and TEREM-Immediate Medical Care, and is Medical Advisor to the Jerusalem Breastfeeding Center.
One of the first graduates of the Nishmat Keren Ariel Program as a Yoetzet Halacha (Women’s Halachic Advisor), Deena has written a number of articles related to women’s health issues and Jewish law. She is on the faculty of Shaalvim for Women and lectures extensively on Medicine, Women's Health and Jewish Law at numerous institutions of advanced study, including Nishmat, Michlelet Herzog (Alon Shvut) and Machon Schlesinger (at Shaare Zedek Hospital). Deena also directs the Nishmat Women’s On Line Information Center websites dedicated to Women’s Health and Halacha, for the general public and for health care providers. She lives in Israel with her husband Rabbi Sammy Zimmerman, and their five children.
